The Mason Institute in Edinburgh Wins Bid to Host 13th World Congress of the International Association of Bioethics
The Mason Institute won its bid to host the 13th World Congress of the International Association of Bioethics. The event will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland, from June 14-17, 2016.
The Mason Institute is an interdisciplinary research network based at the University of Edinburgh. They aim to investigate how developments in medicine and bioethics affect law, the life sciences, and the practice of medicine on a national and international scale.
The World Congress of the International Association of Bioethics is the largest annual gathering of international academics, medical practitioners, and field experts. This year’s conference will explore “Individuals, Public Interest and Public Goods: What is the Contribution of Bioethics?” The conference will provide a platform for discussing important bioethical issues related to the alleged supremacy of the individual over the community. These include questions regarding genetic research, scarce health resources, and climate change, phenomena that have the propensity to greatly affect future generations. The conference will also provide budding academics opportunities to gain research skills and competency through a variety of activities. There will also be plenty of networking opportunities, which will (hopefully) facilitate the exchange of information. The event will also include various exhibitions and public performances that explore the intersection of science, medicine, ethics, and the arts.
